There is something deeply satisfying about walking through the garden early in the morning and finding peppers ready to harvest.

This week, I picked my first handful of beautiful green jalapeños. They weren’t the biggest peppers I’ve ever grown, and they weren’t purchased from a grocery store. They were the result of weeks of watering, pulling weeds, watching the weather, and simply being faithful to the process.

As I held them in my hand, I realized they were teaching a lesson far greater than gardening.

Every Harvest Begins with One Seed

When I planted these jalapeños, all I had was faith.

Faith that the seed would germinate.

Faith that the roots would grow.

Faith that, with God’s blessing, one day there would be fruit.

Life works the same way.

Every business starts with one idea.

Every ministry starts with one act of obedience.

Every family legacy starts with one faithful decision.

God often begins with something small before He entrusts us with something greater.

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” — Zechariah 4:10

The Garden Rewards Consistency

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that plants don’t respond to excitement—they respond to consistency.

The peppers didn’t grow because I checked on them every five minutes.

They grew because day after day, I watered them, cared for them, and trusted the process.

Our spiritual lives are much the same.

Daily prayer.

Daily time in God’s Word.

Daily acts of obedience.

Those small, faithful steps eventually produce a harvest that others can see.

Harvest Is More Than Food

These peppers will become salsa, meals, and maybe even hot sauce.

But they represent something more valuable than food.

They represent stewardship.

Every vegetable that comes from this garden reminds me that God provides everything we truly need. Our responsibility is to care faithfully for what He places in our hands.

Whether it’s a garden, a family, a business, or our finances, faithful stewardship honors God.

Plant a Seed. Grow a Harvest.

It’s about growing faith.

Every seed reminds us that God is always working beneath the surface—even when we can’t see it.

If you’re in a season where you feel like nothing is happening, don’t give up.

In God’s perfect timing, the harvest will come.

That’s the journey. That’s the road.

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” - Psalm 34:19

Nobody promises smooth pavement. Life will hand you seasons that feel like they have no end - cold, dark, disorienting. And in those seasons, the crowd thins out. The voices go quiet. The footsteps you thought were beside you fade into the distance.

You may hear many footsteps along the way. But look down. Count yours. Two feet. Your steps. And walking with you - always - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. That makes three. A company that never clocks out, never drifts, never leaves when the road gets rough.

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” - Hebrews 13:5

Prosperous days are already in motion, moving toward you even when you can’t see them yet.

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” - Galatians 6:9

Plant your faith. Water it with prayer. The harvest is already growing.

This Fourth of July weekend, I’m thinking about freedom a little differently. Not just the freedom this country celebrates, but the freedom that comes from trusting God through the seasons we don’t control — the heat waves, the waiting, the not-yet. Dorothy and I have felt that heat this week too, in more ways than one, and it’s been a reminder that obedience doesn’t pause just because it’s uncomfortable.

Wherever you are this weekend — grilling out, watching fireworks, or just trying to stay cool — I pray you find a moment to remember that God is still working, even in the heat. Especially in the heat.

As I stood outside tonight, I looked toward the heavens and saw the moon shining through the trees. Its light stretched across the night sky like the hand of God reaching down through the darkness.

It reminded me of something.

The moon doesn’t create its own light.

It reflects the light of the sun.

That is exactly how we, as followers of Christ, are called to live.

We are not the source.

We are the reflection.

When we stay close to the Son, His light shines through us for a world that is walking in darkness.

Just as a seed spends time hidden beneath the soil before it breaks through into the light, there are seasons in our lives when God is working beneath the surface. We may not understand what He’s doing, but He is preparing us for a harvest.

Darkness is not the end of the story.

It is often where faith grows the deepest roots.

Your trials…
Your waiting…
Your prayers…
Your tears…

None of them are wasted.

God is still working.

The light is still shining.

And if He brought you this far, He will not leave you now.

Keep planting.

Keep praying.

Keep believing.

Because every seed planted in faith has an appointed harvest.

“The light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” — John 1:5 (KJV)

As I looked at the heavens tonight, I wasn’t reminded of how dark the night was.

I was reminded of how powerful even one light can be.

May we become that light for someone else today.

The same God who feeds the birds is the same God who watches over us.

Sometimes we work so hard trying to figure everything out that we forget our Provider has never missed a day of caring for His creation.

If God takes care of the birds of the air…

Yesterday, as I traveled through winding roads surrounded by trees and open landscapes, I wasn’t just looking at scenery. I was looking at the handiwork of God.

The mountains don’t rush.

The trees don’t compete.

The valleys don’t complain.

Everything in creation moves according to the season God has appointed.

As I drove, I couldn’t help but think about the vision God has placed in my heart for YAHSHUA Organic Farm & Retreat – First Fruit. Long before there is a retreat, before there are cottages, gardens, or walking trails, there is preparation.

Sometimes God teaches us while we’re simply passing through.

What looks like an ordinary drive can become a classroom if we’re willing to listen.

The mountains reminded me that God builds slowly, carefully, and intentionally. He is far more interested in developing our character than satisfying our timetable.

Every mile yesterday reminded me that this journey isn’t just about finding land.

It’s about becoming the man God is preparing to steward that land.

The road through the mountains may have ended, but the journey of faith continues.

Today, I’m grateful for the quiet places where God still speaks.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” — Psalm 19:1 (KJV)

For many people, summer means vacations, cookouts, longer days, and time spent outdoors. But as I stood looking at the garden, I was reminded that summer is also a season of growth.

The seeds planted in the spring are now beginning to show their progress. Some are growing quickly. Others seem slower. Yet each seed is developing according to the timing God designed.

Our walk with God is much the same.

We often want immediate results. We pray today and expect the harvest tomorrow. But God works through seasons. There is a time to plant, a time to water, and a time to harvest.

Not every seed sprouts overnight.

Some blessings take time.

Some lessons require patience.

Some harvests are still beneath the surface where no one can see them yet.

The farmer understands that growth is happening even when nothing appears above the ground. Faith requires the same understanding.

As we enter this summer season, let us not become discouraged if everything is not where we hoped it would be. Continue planting good seeds. Continue watering them with prayer. Continue trusting God for the increase.

In His perfect timing, the harvest will come.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1

Balance is not optional. It is essential.

You cannot feed a family with just tomatoes. You cannot nourish a community with just one crop. A healthy garden requires variety — vegetables, fruit, herbs, roots. Each one serving a different purpose. Each one meeting a different need. Each one growing in its own season.

Think about a burger. A burger without lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles is incomplete. And where do all those ingredients come from?

The garden.

God designed each ingredient with purpose. Each one adds something different. Each one is necessary. Leave one out and something is missing. Rush the process and something shows.

And yet so many of us try to live life with just one thing. Just one source of income. Just one way of thinking. Just one approach to everything.

God never designed us that way.

Look at creation itself. He didn’t make one type of tree. One type of animal. One type of soil. He made variety because variety reflects His nature. His wisdom. His abundance.

“And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.” — Genesis 1:11

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” — Ephesians 2:10

Variety was His idea from the beginning. Completeness was His design from the start.

So what does your garden look like today?

Are you balanced in your faith? Your family? Your health? Your purpose?

Or are you only growing tomatoes?

Not everyone is ready for what God has placed in you.

For a long time I was sharing the vision — the farm, the faith, the calling — in other people’s spaces. WhatsApp groups. Facebook groups. Borrowing room in someone else’s house to share what God gave me.

And I had to learn to respect those boundaries. Not everyone in that room signed up for the Kingdom message. Not everyone is hungry for what God is growing in you. And that is okay.

Because here is what I know — the seed doesn’t belong in every soil.

“Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet.” — Matthew 7:6Yahshua Himself said it. Not every crowd is your congregation. Not every platform is your pulpit.

So instead of forcing the seed into ground that isn’t ready — build your own garden. Cultivate your own soil. Invite the people who are hungry for what God has placed in you to come and eat at your table.

That is why First Fruit exists.

This is a space prepared for those who are ready. Those who are hungry. Those who understand that every seed planted in faith yields a harvest in His perfect time.
